Things to know about the PMAY G Housing Scheme


 
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin is an initiative by the Government of India to provide affordable housing to individuals from all strata of society. Accordingly, it offers funding of up to Rs.1.2 lakh to individuals without any home or living in dilapidated buildings to aid them in constructing or rebuilding their houses.

As per provisions under PMAY Gramin, the house should also be equipped with all basic amenities like water supply, cooking gas, toilet, electricity, etc. to enhance the quality of life led by these individuals.

Some essential features of PMAYG include the following -

  • The cost of financial aid provided under this scheme is to be shared by the central and state government in a ratio of 60:40.
  • Beneficiaries for this scheme will be selected through the qualifying parameters used by socioeconomic and caste census of 2011.
  • The PMAY-G will also aid beneficiaries in constructing a disaster-resistant building. Accordingly, building designs will be provided to eligible individuals under this scheme.

Eligible beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin include –

  • Manual scavengers.
  • Households with no male member above the age of 16.
  • Families with a single girl child, widows and specially-abled members.
  • Primitive tribal groups.
  • Households depending on alms, casual and manual labour for income.
  • Families with no literate member above the age of 25.

Additionally, Individuals who cannot qualify for this scheme include households owning a vehicle or fishing boat, households with a family member employed in a government job, families paying income tax, etc. Those who are eligible for PMAY-G can, however, consider opting for a home loan to meet the funding requirements. They can avail attractive features and benefits such as simple eligibility criteria, affordable interest rates, etc.
