The income tax department of India maintains a user-friendly online portal that allows ITR e-filing, refund status and deduction details check, e-verification of returns and such. Taxpayers can easily access these facilities using their income tax login credentials, post-registration. However, they will first need to be registered with the portal.
How can you register for income tax e-filing?
Some prerequisites for the registration process are PAN, current address, mobile number and email address.
Below are the steps to follow before initiating income tax login India -
- Visit the income tax department’s official website.
- On the homepage, click the ‘Register Yourself’ option.
- Choose ‘Individual’ or a relevant option available as the user type and ‘continue’.
- In the next steps, provide the necessary details like date of birth, name, PAN, residential status, current address, password and contact details.
- On submission, you will receive an OTP either in your mobile number or email ID provided.
- Enter the OTP for final verification and finish the registration.
Once you are a registered user, income tax login becomes easier.
- Visit the website of the income tax department, and click on ‘Login Here’.
- As the login page appears, enter username, password and captcha code. Note that your 10-character PAN is the User ID or username.
