Indira Gandhi Awas Yojana, or IAY, is a government-backed public housing programme launched in 1985. Its primary objective is to extend financial assistance to individuals belonging to the SC/ST, bonded labourers, minorities and other categories below the poverty line to build a house.
Individuals residing in rural areas and without a pucca house can register for this scheme in these steps –
Step 1 – Visit Indira Gandhi Awas Yojana’s official website.
Step 2 – Navigate to the application form page.
Step 3 – Provide all relevant details and upload all required documents.
Step 4 – Check the details shared and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
Individuals will be registered under this scheme once they complete the required IAY. However, besides finding out the registration process, individuals should also find out the steps involved to check the IAY list to streamline the entire process.
Applicants can search their name on the IAY list by following these simple steps –
Step 1 – Visit the Ministry of Rural Development’s official website.
Step 2 – Navigate to Stakeholder’s tab.
Step 3 – Select IAY/PMAYG beneficiary option.
Step 4 – Enter your enrolment number and click on ‘Submit’ button.
In case one does not have an enrolment number, he/she can click on the ‘Advanced Search’ button and then on the ‘Submit’ button.
Note that only individuals with an annual income of less than Rs.3 lakh and with a BPL ration card can apply for IAY. Also, they should not be a beneficiary of any other housing scheme launched by the central or state government. Notably, those residing in the urban areas qualify for the PMAY urban that extends subsidy on home loan interest rate and may consider applying for it accordingly.
