PMAY Eligibility Criteria at a Glance


The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY scheme) is one of the most hyped housing plans launched after India’s independence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PMAY scheme in 2015.

This plan intended to provide affordable housing solutions to the poor population of India in rural and urban areas.

Under the PM Awas Yojana, the Central Government also made it possible to enjoy interest subsidy on home loans.

But to apply for the PMAY, you need to meet a few eligibility criteria.

What are the eligibility criteria of the PMAY scheme?

  1. Any household or beneficiary families who don’t have any pucca home anywhere in India are eligible to apply for PMAY.
  2. A beneficiary family denotes a husband, wife, unmarried sons and unmarried daughters.
  3. An individual or a household whose yearly income is between Rs.3 lakh and Rs.18 lakh are fit to apply for a home loan interest subsidy. A home loan interest subsidy of up to Rs.2.67 lakh or 6.5% is being given under the PMAY plan.
  4. It is not possible to enjoy the PMAY benefits on an already built home.
  5. Anyone who has taken assistance from Central or State Governments under earlier launched schemes is not eligible to apply under PMAY.
